Army Sergeant Jason Christopher Wiens passed away on April 23, 2017, at the age of 24.

He was born on February 9, 1993, in Fresno, CA, and was the youngest of three children. Jason lived in Clovis, CA, until he graduated from Clovis High School in 2011. He was very active in sports, playing soccer throughout elementary school, football in junior high school, and running hurdles all four years in high school going on to receive the Sassano Blanket his senior year. Jason also loved playing World of Warcraft and training in Tae Kwon Do, achieving the rank of black belt.

After graduation, Jason left for boot camp in the United States Army. He trained as a combat medic, deploying twice, once to Kuwait and more recently to Iraq and was last stationed at Ft Bragg, NC, as part of the 82nd Airborne Division.

While in the Army, he had many friends and good times with his fellow medics. There were trips to Las Vegas, NV, football games in Chicago, IL, skydiving, roman candle wars on the Fourth, and many other adventures. During his visits home, Jason enjoyed his family, catching up with close friends, visiting his sister in Eureka, CA, hiking and camping.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with “C” device for combat, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal and the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Judith Ann Wiens, and Mary Lynch Wiens.

He is survived by his parents; siblings; grandparents; aunts; uncles; a great-grandmother; Cindy Wiens; Alex Jones; Kaity Wiens; Bob Wiens; Cathi Wiens; Vicki Hatch; Robbie Wiens; and Hilda Richert. Jason always considered Andy, Carmen, Niko and Monet Gomes his second family and spent many happy hours with them during his years in Tae Kwon Do.
